The Black Phone 2021 Film Review:

THE BLACK PHONE (2022) *** Mason Thames, Madeline McGraw, Ethan Hawke, Jeremy Davies. Based on the short story by Joe King, filmmaker Scott Derrickson – who adapted with C. Robert Cargill – depicts a string of child abductions in Denver circa mid-70s with Thames the latest victim who attempts to escape the dungeon of his captor known only as The Grabber (Hawke making the most of his slimly written role with low-key intensity to burn). McGraw steals the movie as the younger sister who has a dream gift to see clues in helping the local police find her missing brother. While the plot holes are few they are noticeable which hinders the film on a whole in spite of its surprisingly talented young cast.
